KnewCar ("KnewCar", "we", "us") helps people understand new-car manufacturer programs and estimated payments before they visit a dealership. This policy explains what information we collect through the KnewCar app and website, how we use it, and the choices you have.

The short version

• We collect what we need to show you cars and payment estimates that fit your budget.
• We don't run a credit check. Your exact credit score stays on your phone and is never sent to our servers.
• We don't sell your personal information or share it with dealers or lenders without your permission.
• You can delete your account and saved data at any time in the app.

Information we collect

Information you give us

• Account details: your first name, email address, and password (stored by our authentication provider in protected form).
• Shopping preferences: payment range, down payment, trade-in details and any amount still owed, finance or lease preference, yearly mileage, and ZIP code.
• Saved vehicles: cars you save and the payment setup shown when you saved them.
• Waitlist sign-ups: your email address and, if you choose, your ZIP code.
• Messages: anything you send when you contact us.

Information that stays on your device

• Credit score estimate: if you set an estimated credit score, it is stored only in your phone's secure storage and used on your phone to estimate payments.
• Pre-approval rate: if you enter a rate from a lender, it is kept only while the app is open and is not saved or sent to us.

Information collected automatically

Like most online services, our servers receive basic technical information when the app or website connects to them, such as IP address, device and browser type, and request logs. We use this to run, secure, and fix the service.

How we use information

• To provide the service: matching vehicles and manufacturer programs to your preferences and ZIP code, and calculating estimates.
• To keep your account, settings, and saved vehicles available when you return.
• To send account emails, such as confirming your email or resetting your password, and beta invitations if you joined the waitlist.
• To keep KnewCar secure and prevent abuse.
• To understand and improve the product.

How we share information

We share information only with service providers that help us run KnewCar, under agreements that limit their use of it, including:

• Hosting, database, and sign-in services.
• Email delivery services.
• Payment processing, when paid plans are available (we don't store full card numbers).

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users or others, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case this policy will continue to apply. We do not sell your personal information, and we don't share it with dealers or lenders unless you ask us to.

Your choices

• Update your preferences at any time in the app.
• Delete your account from the Profile screen. This removes your account, preferences, and saved vehicles.
• Unsubscribe from waitlist and product emails using the link in any email.
• Ask us to access, correct, or delete your information by emailing jake@knewcar.us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state privacy laws.

Data retention and security

We keep your information while your account is active and delete it when you delete your account, except where we need to keep limited records for legal, security, or accounting reasons. We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit and access controls, but no system is perfectly secure.

Children

KnewCar is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 18. We don't knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the date above and let you know in the app or by email.
